Rising Star Casino and Resort was interested in developing a ferry landing in Rabbit Hash, Kentucky. The ferry would reduce the commute time from Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, to Rising Sun, Indiana, from one hour to only ten minutes, reducing the travel time for casino patrons and creating economic, tourism, and recreational benefits for both municipalities. The first step in the ferry development was to be granted a conditional use permit for the ferry landing from the Boone County Kentucky Board of Adjustments, where it had previously failed to pass.
RunSwitch knew it was important to build a coalition network in support of the project- we developed a campaign to employ positive messaging and educate local residents about the benefits of the ferry landing. The campaign included grassroots outreach to local influencers, businesses leaders and those in opposition to the project. RunSwitch helped plan and execute an event at the casino to further inform Boone County residents on the ferry project. The event attracted approximately 400 attendees and generated a petition in support of the project with over 250 signatures. We developed handouts, presentations, and other collateral to separate the “myths” from the “facts” concerning the project. With our positive messaging and outreach efforts, we were able to secure earned media about the ferry project in several local outlets, including The Community Recorder and The Cincinnati Enquirer. We also secured supporters to testify and attend the Boone County Board of Adjustments meeting.
